Our work relies on fundraising in order to support the impact we have in our student and local communities. Could you be a part of our work by fundraising for us?
If you’re interested in fundraising for us there are four simple steps to get started.
- Choose an event. Whether it’s a half marathon or a bake sale – choose a challenge you will enjoy!
- Pick a date. Give people (and yourself) time to prepare. Getting your challenge in the diary early on means as many people can get involved as possible.
- Set up your online page. You can use Student Hubs’ JustGiving page to set up your fundraiser.
- Have fun! You’re doing something amazing, so enjoy yourself.
Sophie’s story
Sophie ran the Barcelona half marathon raising £500 for Student Hubs. This money supported our work tackling local issues in Southampton such as educational inequality, youth disadvantage and environmental sustainability.
I grew up in Southampton and have worked locally with young people in the city since 2015, and worked at Southampton Hub between 2018 and 2021. I always wanted to run a half marathon and I am very passionate about providing opportunities for young people to access further education and cultural experiences – why not raise money for it?
In my role I spent a lot of time encouraging students to fundraise and it felt so good to be able to go out there and challenge myself too!
I loved running my first half marathon so much that I booked another one when I got back. I felt so proud to have accomplished a personal challenge as well as raising money for a very worth cause.
Need some inspiration?
We asked our team for their favourite fundraising ideas to inspire you. Why not get active with a sponsored run, cycle or swim? Alternatively if you’re looking for something more flexible (and delicious) consider a bake sale.
More unique ideas include a dance-a-thon, great for getting a big group of people together to have some fun. Or a quiz or game night where your friends and family can donate for a great evening. Finally, you could consider an art auction supporting local artists and businesses whilst getting donations for our work.
If you have any other ideas, or you want support with your fundraiser, you can always reach out to us at info@studenthubs.org to chat.
Jack’s story
Jack, a student at the University of Southampton, cycled 210km to Cardiff (in Storm Dennis!) to raise money for Student Hubs. Jack was a volunteer for our BioCycle project, cycling around the city collecting food waste to divert it from landfill.
Southampton Hub has so many fantastic projects, from sustainability projects to projects empowering young women and supporting kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. If there’s a social issue you care about, Southampton Hub or another Hub have probably got a project related to it! There are so many fantastic causes that donations can go towards.
