What is the Committee?
Our committee are the heart and soul of Bristol Hub! The committee is made up of a variety of roles that help us to achieve our overall mission: mainstream student social action. Each member supports with a key feature of our work including:
- Building awareness of the social and environmental issues occurring in Bristol’s community,
- Connecting like-minded students who are passionate about making change and,
- Providing opportunities for students to tackle these issues, through our structured volunteering, our practical volunteering or our one-off activities.
who are we looking for
No previous experience is required to be on the Bristol Hub committee! Some things we are looking for include:
- Be enthusiastic about social action and Bristol Hubs’ work!
- Good communication with the rest of the Bristol Hub student committee and the staff team
- Friendly, approachable and welcoming to new volunteers.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Driven to support and empower student voice
What you’ll be doing
As a committee volunteer, you will be supporting other students to connect, learn and do. You will receive training in project and event management, resilience, leadership and teamwork, as well as receive support from the Bristol Hub team. The committee meet once a week to help support each other and deliver activities.

These roles support our current volunteering programmes to thrive, helping to recruit, train and develop volunteers in our key practical and skilled projects. You will be supporting active volunteers to engage with social issues and contribute to tackling these. You will also have the opportunity to raise awareness of the social and environmental issues that our volunteering programmes are addressing. You will play an active part in thinking about how to engage students into social action!
President | Lead the strategic direction of the Bristol Hub committee and support everyone to reach their potential as the Bristol Hub President. |
Vice President | Support the president in the strategic direction of the Bristol Hub committee and take action through the Vice President role. |
Marketing and Communication Coordinators | Create dynamic and engaging marketing material to communicate about social issues and engage students into our volunteering programmes. Find out more about the Marketing and Communications role. |
Events and Campaign Coordinator | Develop and deliver engaging events and campaigns that highlight social and environmental issues in Bristol. Find out more about the Events and Campaigns role. |
Finance and Fundraising Officer | Support the fundraising goals of the Bristol Hub committee and develop campaigning and storytelling skills. View the Finance and Fundraising role. |
One off volunteering coordinator | Engage students in one-off opportunities that can be stepping stones to long-term social action as the one-off volunteering coordinator. |
Schools Plus Coordinators | Engage students to tackle educational inequality through volunteering in local schools. Find out about the Schools Plus role and the Schools Plus programme. |
LinkAges Coordinators | Connect students with older people in the community to tackle the social isolation and loneliness. Find out about the LinkAges role and the LinkAges programme. |

How to get involved
Applications are now open! To apply you need to complete an application form to let us know why you’re interested in a specific role and your availability for interviews.
Once we’ve heard from you the next steps will be:
- Application deadline on 19 April
- Interviews will be held on 25 April or 1 May. You will receive all the questions in advance and the interview will last 30 minutes.
- If successful, you will join an induction day in the first week of June, where you will also get to meet previous committee members and receive a handover.
- There will be personal development chats over the summer to get you started in September!

FAQ
There are loads of benefits for you if you get involved with Bristol Hub. These include:
- Having an impact in the community. You can make a difference and support local organisations.
- Have the opportunity to meet new people across different year groups and degrees, all groups are mixed!
- You will develop key skills including project management, teamwork, leadership, resilience and confidence. This will be supported by the professional training you receive and the support you get throughout your experience.

We’ve assessed the accessibility of all our opportunities and are able to discuss these with you prior to you starting your placement, this includes any reasonable adjustments we can make. All accessibility information will also be sent to you prior to your placement as standard you have any questions about accessibility, or want to make request a reasonable adjustment, please reach out to Sorcha at manager@bristolhub.org.
Some examples of reasonable adjustments we can offer include:
- Using an expensed taxi service to aid mobility conditions.
- Making sure there is seating with no arms.
- Printed documents prior to training when requested.
- Extra time to complete activities in the selection workshop, as you would get in exams.
Our activities are all open for everyone so if you’ve not been involved in social action before, or you’re apprehensive about getting involved, reach out to us at info@bristolhub.org. All of our opportunities practice a safe space policy meaning they are supportive, non-judgemental and always willing to listen.
We will be in touch as soon as we’ve read your application. We will let you know whether you are invited to a selection workshop, and further information on what to expect.

It’s natural to feel nervous when you try new things, but don’t let you put that off. If you want to talk to a member of our team before applying or attending a session you can email them at info@bristolhub.org and we’ll get back to you.
Some things we recommend often include applying to the programme with a friend – you could sign up together so that you’ll have a friendly face. Alternatively, you could arrange to meet a member of our team before a session so that you get to know each other 1-1 and can travel together. We’ll work together to find a solution which supports you to get involved, whatever that may be.
