Welcome to our Impact Report, an opportunity for us to share stories of our student volunteers in their local communities and look towards the future.
Student Hubs’ mission is to mainstream student social action, developing a generation of active citizens. In 2020-21, 1,436 students participated in social action programmes run by local Hubs.
What we do
We believe that every student should participate in social action, positively impacting their community at university and beyond.
We run programmes in partnership with UK universities, establishing ‘Hubs’ through which students are supported to create a positive impact in their local communities. We currently have Hubs in Bristol, Cambridge, Kingston, Southampton and Winchester.
92%
of students agreed that participating in their Hub activity enhanced their university experience, an increase of 4% from 2019-20.
66%
of students agreed that they feel a sense of belonging in their local community.
84%
of students agreed that participating in a Hub programme enhanced their wellbeing, an increase of 10% since our 2019-20 Impact Report.
Why does this matter?
High-quality student social action benefits these groups:
Students
develop skills, including working with others, leadership and confidence. Social action programmes enhance student experience and develop graduate employability whilst tackling social and environmental issues, working on projects in collaboration with organisations.
Communities
are able to collaborate with young people to continue to make a positive impact on the local area. We work in collaboration with community partners to identify these needs and have an ongoing dialogue to ensure we are adapting and improving our projects to create the best impact possible. We continue to regularly run needs-mapping projects, to bring partners together to identify community challenges.
